Get to Know Ya Book Tag
Today is my day off work and I am currently curled up in bed, listening to the rain with a stack of textbooks and assignments sitting next to me. Yes, I am ignoring them. No, I do not feel guilty.
I felt like doing something a little different today so I’m trying out a Book Tag. Nobody has tagged me in this (I’m nominating myself because I can, and I want to) and I also have no clue who originally created this tag and therefore I cannot give credit where credit is due. I’ve plucked the idea from @flippingthruthepages so we’ll just thank her, shall we? Without further ado, here’s the Get to Know Ya Book Tag.
Favourite Book of All Time
This is a real cruel one to start with. In all honesty, I don’t think I have one solid favourite of all time. I have endless love for the Great Gatsby, Harry Potter will always hold a piece of my soul and Six of Crows has been my obsession for the past two years or so. Does that count as an answer?
Favourite Book Five Years Ago
Five years ago, I’ll be honest, I wasn’t reading much, but I clung to the Wings series by Aprilynne Pike for dear life. I may have read it about seven years ago, but it was one of very few books that I picked up in that period of my life, so I’ll call it a safe bet that they were my favourite at the time. Also, I was reading the Potter series around that time, so that’s a given.
Again, Six of Crows. Sorry to disappoint but it would appear that this post is going to get slightly repetitive because I have my special snowflake books and that’s pretty much it. That duology is everything. I have nothing else to say.
Last Book You Read
Elevation: The Thousand Steps by Helen Brain. This is actually a review copy that was sent to me by NB Publishers for the upcoming release of the third instalment of the Elevation series. I recently finished the first book and I’m currently working through the second and thoroughly enjoying it.
Last Book of Poetry You Read
Milk and Honey by Rupi Kaur – pretty standard, pretty basic, but let’s be real I’m not a poetry person. I did enjoy the book though.
What Book Most Influenced Your Life
This got deep real quick. Again, maybe I’m curving questions here but it’s difficult to say that there was ONE book that completely altered my life and who I am. However, there are a few that have contributed significantly, such as The Book Thief by Markus Zusak, A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness, The Shock of the Fall by Nathan Filer (an underrated read if ever there was one) and of course, the Harry Potter series. Corny as it may be, J.K. Rowling is a big part of who I am, and I’m willing to bet not many of you can say otherwise for yourselves.
Book That Made You Ugly Cry
Too many to name, as usual, but my biggest, ugliest recent cry was at the hands of Anthony Doerr with All the Light We Cannot See.
Book That Made You Laugh
White Cat by Holly Black. This is my first Holly Black novel and though it’s an old one, I can tell I’m going to enjoy her writing. The main character is witty and sly but also slightly awkward and there were parts of this book that made me do those awkwardly abrupt barking type laughs.
Character You’d Like to Be for a Day
Aelin Galathynius, obviously. This one’s a no-brainer because why wouldn’t I want to be a fire-breathing, sword wielding blonde powerhouse bombshell. Obviously.
Book So Good You Dreamt About it
We’ve all had a Hogwarts dream, right. Right?
Book You DNFed
I’m kind of embarrassed about this one but I couldn’t get through Wuthering Heights. I started reading it at a bad time and I honestly could not get myself to fall into the writing. I definitely will give it a second try though. Seriously, it’s not you, its’ me.
Book You Are Excited to Read
My current book obsession is the Darker Shade of Magic series. I’m so in love with the concept of the plot and the worlds, I have this weird tendency to stare at the Goodreads page and read the blurb over and over as though that’s going to magically make the book appear in front of me. This series will probably be my 22nd birthday present from me to me. Thanks in advance.
